About Ketchikan, Alaska: It’s the fourth largest city in Alaska, with a population of about 8,000, and the salmon-fishing capital of the world. But don’t throw your rod and reel into the Trooper too quickly; Ketchikan is on an island, one of hundreds dotting Alaska’s Inland Passage. From the plane or boat that delivers you here, you may see the forests and bays of Misty Fjords National Monument, maybe a cruise ship, or a totem pole on a remote island shore. If your timing’s right, you might even see our hospital administrator trolling from his boat, "Popcorn King."
Ketchikan combines the best that Alaska has to offer. Located on Revillagigedo Island in Southeast Alaska, within the Tongass National Forest, we are lucky to have the best of both worlds - the mountains and the sea. We enjoy a lush green landscape 365 days a year thanks to an average of 162 inches of precipitation, which includes about 32 inches of snow. Winters can be chilly, as they are in most Northern States, but our year round climate is rather temperate and temperatures can reach into the 90’s during the summer.
