Duties: Provides a wide range of patient care duties in the Maternal Newborn Unit (MNU) of Bassett Army Community Hospital. Provides nursing care treatment and evaluation of patients presented to the MNU. Observes patient's condition, recognizes and identifies serious life threatening situations and immediately takes corrective action. Notifies professional nurse or physician of situation. Takes vital signs, patient's history, response to treatments and records collected data on the patient's record. Performs treatment and procedures such as Non-Strss Tests, wound care, sterile dressing changes, catheterizations, electrocardiograms, Nebulizer breathing treatments; Nasogastric or Prepares and administers medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, and intramuscular) in accordance with standardized procedures and protocols. Instructs patients on possible medication side effects. Prepares patients for surgical procedures. Prepares and maintains medical records, logs and laboratory slips and documents nursing care provided in accordance with local policies and federal regulations.
